Commenting on news that Tynedale District Council have asked local market traders in the historic market town of Hexham to quieten down during their trading hours, Fiona Hall MEP for Hexham said,
“This is an example of a local council losing touch with reality.
“Hearing market stall holders touting for business is an 800 year old tradition which goes hand in hand with the existence of the market.
“We should be safe keeping these customs, rather than trying to stamp them out.”
