Liberal Democrat MEP for the North East Fiona Hall is now live on YouTube throwing money away with politicians from across Europe.
The Members of the European Parliament were throwing fake money off the first floor of the European Parliament building in Brussels.
The money was to represent the amount wasted every month when the European Parliament packs its bags and heads for a week-long session in Strasbourg.
Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall says that there is no need for the Parliament to move from its usual residence in Brussels for full sessions of the parliament. She said:
“It is absurd and illogical that we spend £140 million a year on having a second parliamentary seat in Strasbourg. There is no need for 785 MEPs, our staff and our trunks of files to leave Brussels once a month.
“Not only is this a total waste of taxpayers’ money, but the traveling involved wastes energy and adds to carbon emissions.
"MEPs cannot change the rule on meeting in Strasbourg - it is up to national governments to agree to scrap the arrangement. I urge Gordon Brown to stop ducking and to put the issue on the agenda.”
