Fiona met staff and campaigners, fighting ward closures at Bishop Auckland General Hospital.
She has written to Patricia Hewitt MP on behalf of concerned and upset constituents who have contacted her.
In her letter she says:
“Constituents inform me that this hospital has never been given a chance to operate at full capacity since it opened.
“The hospital serves a largely rural community and a loss of these vital services will result in patients having to travel much further distances for care."
Fiona has asked the Government to explain what the future plans are for the hospital, and whether there will be further ward closures or job losses.
She commented:
"It beggars belief that that this facility is losing so much money and faces further cut in services, so soon after it opened in a blaze of publicity.
The Government is completely mismanaging the NHS."
Fiona has also written to the Durham and Darlington Acute Trust.
